The United Tamil
Catholics Community (UTC) was started by a group of Tamil speaking Catholic
Families and Tamil Priests on August 15th, 2010 with the celebration of “Feast of
Assumption of Our Lady†and the “63rd Independence Day of India†in St. John The
Baptist Church, Jersey City, NJ, USA. In the first gathering approximately 50 families
attended the Tamil Mass and the name “United Tamil Catholics†was selected by majority
of the members and was unanimously accepted by all the members present.
UTC is dedicated
to the principles of UNITY as a group of Tamil speaking people with similar values
and Catholic beliefs. The main goal of the association is to unite all Tamil Catholics
by celebrating The Holy Mass in Tamil as one family. The organization aims at promoting
growth as an individual and also as a group.
This community
does not believe in titles or channelizing authority to a single group of people.
It focuses on an effort that will be/should be driven by anyone in UTC who wants
to help improve Tamil Catholic Community in NJ/NY/PA/DE spiritually and socially.
UTC believes that
Children are our future and so encourages kid's to showcase their talents in
all our gatherings. Also, it focuses on building strong young individuals with Tamil
culture and moral values.
UTC is guided by Multi-Cultural Ministries of the Metuchen Diocese
and coordinated by Indian Apostolate. UTC will celebrate Holy Mass in Tamil on the First Sunday
of every month @ 2:30 PM in St. Cecilia’s Church, Edison, NJ, USA followed by fellowship
in the Church Hall. Members of United Tamil Catholics will be communicated via email.
Come, let us worship the LORD together in Tamil as one big family.
